NET was the first tramway in the country to be fully accessible, meeting the Disability Discrimination Act guidelines. At NET we believe everyone should be able to glide around Nottingham and so will continue to work hard to make the system accessible for as many individuals as we can.
Access for All
All our trams are 100% low floor
This means there are no steps to negotiate. Four sets of wide double doors with white strips for enhanced visibility feature on each tram, with warning sounds for when doors are opening and closing. There is only a small gap between our tram doors and the tram stop platforms which makes boarding easier.
High contrast floor colourings
The floor colourings in front of doors contrast with the rest of the carriage floor making the area more readily visible. Extra space near the doors allows easy movement on and off the tram for wheelchairs and buggies.
Electronic signs and audible announcements
Electronic signs and audible announcements communicate the tram's destination and the next stop. Conductors trained in disability awareness, are on board every tram to issue tickets and provide help if needed. If requested by a conductor or passenger to give up your seat for someone less able, please consider their request. Our drivers are also trained to allow people with visible disability more time to board or alight the tram.
There are two dedicated wheelchair spaces
These spaces have a help button and a stop request button at an appropriate height. There are also 6 clearly marked priority seats for our passengers who are less able to stand. Guide dogs and assist dogs are welcome on the tram. The tram driver monitors CCTV cameras to be sure that all passengers who want to board or alight have done so and the doors are clear before closing the doors and setting off.
The tram stop platforms are all laid out in the same way
The platform edge is white and has tactile paving to identify the kerb. Special paving showing the wheelchair sign indicates the appropriate place for wheelchair bound passengers to wait so that they are nearest the wheelchair spaces on the tram. The tram stops are all well lit, have electronic displays providing real-time information showing when the next tram is scheduled to arrive, emergency help points so that passengers can talk to a member of staff and shelters which include a passenger information display. For additional safety and security all tramstops are monitored by constantly recording CCTV.
The Nottingham Express Transit tram timetable is also available in Braille and large print
