What’s essential to see in this majestic city.
Locate Old Market Square > From Old Market Square tram stop
First stop has to be Nottingham
Castle. Although
only a small part of the original castle remains, there is plenty
to see.
Inside the castle are the famous caves, art gallery and museum.
Outside, the
gardens are beautifully laid out in summer and the panoramic
view isn’t
bad either!
Along from the castle is The
Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard, housed in five 17th century cottages
and depicting the social history of Nottingham over the last 300 years.
Next to Brewhouse Yard is the famous Ye
Olde Trip to Jerusalem pub,
built into the side of the rock underneath
the castle, it claims to be the oldest pub in Britain. Make
sure you check out
the “cursed” galleon
and have a go at “ringing the bull”.
Conveniently situated on Maid Marian Way is the Tales of Robin Hood. Have a medieval adventure with England’s best loved outlaw as he wages war against his arch enemy, The Sheriff of Nottingham.
Locate Lace Market > From Lace Market tram stop
Travel through three centuries of crime and punishment at the
Galleries of Justice and experience an authentic Victorian
courtroom. Well known as one of the most active paranormal sites
in the region,
you are able to visit the original cells and caves deep within
this spooky site.
The Lace Market Centre, just beyond the galleries, tells the story of the lace industry and it’s people. You can see lace being made by hand and buy samples from the well-stocked shop.

Inside the Broadmarsh shopping centre is the City of Caves attractions. Descend into the dark world of the man–made caves running underneath Nottingham and see the original Anglo –Saxon tunnels.

And if all these delights are not enough, why not take an official tour? There are a wide range of guided tours on offer, from pub tours to ghost tours. Call in at the City Tourist Information Centre (Old Market Square) for more details.
