Proposals have been put forward to transform one of the UK`s most important public squares into a space which is more flexible, useable and stylish, as well as being safer and easier to manage and maintain. The scheme includes water terraces, the removal of walls and steps to create a more accessible space and a stunning lighting scheme for the rest of the Square.

The scheme was given the go-ahead by the City Council`s Development Control Committee in March and funding has been approved by the East Midlands Development Agency, Greater Nottingham Partnership, the Government Office for the East Midlands and the European Commission. Approval is now awaited from the Government Office for the East Midlands so that work can start in September.

NET will be working closely with the Old Market Square project and we expect that pedestrian access will be maintained to the Old Market Square tram stop at all times during the works. As part of these proposals, buses that currently use trinity square or long row are likely to move to Parliament Street - more details soon. Keep checking back for updates on the work and information about any disruptions.

As part of the Turning Point project, work will also begin shortly on the redevelopment of Trinity Square near Royal Centre into a retail and leisure complex. This will make Upper Parliament Street and Milton Street available for buses, taxis, Blue badge holders, cyclists and access to off-street car parks and loading / unloading only with general traffic being redirected onto new routes. The tram will not be affected during these works and will continue to run as normal.
