Voice of the Tram

Wendy Smith - Voice of the Tram'THE next stop will be' ... announced in the dulcet tones of teacher Wendy Smith.

Passengers will come to know the sound of the teacher of deaf children very well, after she was chosen as the Voice of the Tram.

Announcements along the line of which direction the tram is heading in and what the next stop is were all recorded by Wendy of Wollaton.

The automatic recordings have been installed to help passengers around, especially those with visual impairments.

Wendy already helps those with disabilities, teaching deaf pupils at Firbeck Primary School in Wollaton.

She said: "I have a keen awareness of disability issues and I am pleased to be able to help deaf people and those with disabilities in any way I can.

"I am really pleased to be the Voice of the Tram, though it is a slightly odd experience knowing you will be heard by so many people every day."

Wendy was picked out by a panel of judges, and BBC Radio Nottingham listeners, after more than 100 entrants were whittled down to a shortlist of half-a-dozen.
