PayPoint LogoGet to the point – it’s a revolution in tram ticketing

From March 9th, tram tickets will be available from over 100 agents in the Nottingham and North Notts areas. This is due to a new partnership between NET and PayPoint.

What is paypoint?

PayPoint is the UK's leading branded retail network for the convenient local payment of household bills, mobile top-ups and transport tickets. Current transport sector clients include arriva, first group, Lothian buses, Metrolink, Metro Coastlines Blackpool, Southern Vectis, Wilts and Dorset and Transdev Yellow Buses in Bournemouth. They also handle payments for the London congestion charge and recently won the contract for TV licensing payments.

PayPoint 10 trip walletHow does it work?

A customer will receive a ticket from the special PayPoint terminals at the agents, this is then sealed in a wallet (see right). Payment is taken by the retailer, dependent on their set-up, which may or may not include facilities for accepting credit/debit cards.

Where are these outlets?

In our area, paypoint has 134 outlets, 43 of them very close to tramstops and include independent shops and groups such as Londis and the Co-op. Find your nearest PayPoint outlet online.

What are the benefits?

Firstly, customers who purchase tram tickets via Paypoint will receive a discount, when compared with buying their ticket on the tram. Furthermore, the current ticketing system does not cater for tram-only users who wish to travel on a ticket longer in validity than a week.

The following tickets will be sold by paypoint agents:

7 Tram Days

  • Adult £10.80
  • Child £6.00

30 and 90 Tram day tickets – season tickets for tram-only users

  • Adult 30 Tram days £31.50
  • Adult 90 Tram days £90.00

New Student Tickets

  • 11 weeks tram travel: £72.50 (with NUS card)

Each of these tickets will prominently display an expiry date and can be purchased up to 7 days in advance of the start date required.

10 trip tickets – carnets

To cater for less regular travellers such as part time workers and occasional shoppers, we are also introducing a 10-trip ticket. The conductor will clip one of 10 labelled sections around the edge of the wallet to validate a journey using a small punching device. The trips can be taken at any time, including at peak times.

  • Adult 10 trips: £13
    (currently on-tram a single is £1.50 off-peak and £2.50 at peak)
  • Child 10 trips: £9

NET Commercial Manager Colin Lea said, “This is an exciting change to ticketing, which complements our on-tram collections through conductors. There are real discounts to be had for our loyal passengers in switching, as well as clear convenience benefits too - if you’re at the local shops getting your milk and bread, why not buy a tram ticket too!”
