Better bus/tram concessionary pass scheme – and it’s free

City Council Residents

Councillors have approved a range of improvements to the City Council concessionary Travel Scheme that will come into effect from April 2006.

The current scheme that is already one of the most generous in the country will be further improved:

  • The current annual charge of £7.50 for OAP and Disabled scheme members will be dropped from April 2006
  • Current travel restrictions for OAPs between 4pm and 6pm Monday to Friday will be removed. This will mean OAPs can travel free of charge at all times except 7:30am until 9:30am Monday to Friday.
  • Disabled person’s pass holders will continue to travel free of charge at all times.
  • From April 2006 all scheme members will be issued with a new concessionary travel pass called ‘Citycard’. This will include discounts at leisure centres and retail outlets, and will also act as a library card.
  • The pass will continue to be valid on all buses, trams and Park and Ride services within greater Nottingham and the current scheme boundaries remain unchanged.

County Council Residents

From April 1st 2006 residents of Nottinghamshire who are aged 60 and over or who are disabled will be offered free travel across the county.

  • Half fare will apply before 9:30am and between 4pm and 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • The free scheme will operate between 9:30am and 4pm, and after 6pm, Monday to Friday;all day at weekends or on public holidays.
  • Existing pass holders do not need to do anything as their current bus passes will be valid for the free scheme and Borough or District Councils will be writing to confirm this.
  • Anyone who does not currently have a bus pass will be able to apply for the new scheme through their Borough or District Councils from the beginning of March.
