Entire Tram Route to be Run this Easter as Planned Works Postponed due to Weather
NET trams will now be running along the entire route this Easter as usual, as plans to terminate services at The Forest Park & Ride have been postponed due to the bad weather forecasted for the Easter weekend.
Anticipated freezing temperatures, which will be worsened by strong winds, and the likelihood of rain, sleet and snow, present too high a risk for a number of very weather sensitive operations.
NET will now be operating a Sunday timetable on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday with a normal Saturday service on Easter Saturday.
The purpose of the work planned was to reduce noise and vibration by replacing the tram track along Goldsmith Street with specially designed rails. However, the rails would need to be laid in concrete and the weather conditions could prevent the concrete from setting correctly.
The works are expected to be rescheduled for Whitsunday weekend starting on the 24th May 2008.
