NET Services Return to Normal
NET services returned to normal at the start of service on Monday 3rd April following the shutdown on Sunday 2nd April. The Engineering Work was successfully completed on schedule despite several hitches being encountered.
Helen Goulding, General Manager said “I am extremely proud of the NET team, and am particularly grateful to my Engineering and Management colleagues, many of whom gave up their normal weekends off to ensure that the disruption was kept to a minimum”.
Can we fix it? Yes we can!
On Sunday, 2nd April the entire NET system was shut for essential engineering works to a section of damaged overhead line near Basford tram stop and to allow network rail to lift out the David Lane pedestrian bridge.
This prevented any trams operating for the whole day.
NET committed its full engineering resource, supplemented by specialists from around the country, and used the opportunity to carry out other works as well, involving:
- Maintenance to track and points along the system.
- Other works to overhead line near Highbury Vale.
- Moving a tram stop shelter at Butler’s Hill to improve visibility of the platform by CCTV.
- Repair to tramstop platform edgings in the city centre.
A replacement bus service ran from all stops.
NET Engineering Manager Clive Pennington said, “We apologise to our loyal passengers for this inconvenience. However, we are very pleased with the level of reliability achieved over the past two years and this shutdown will help us to ensure that these levels of reliability continue.”
