NET calls on Nottingham to nominate unsung heroes for 2026 community hero tram.

Nottingham Express Transit (NET) is inviting locals to nominate the unsung heroes who are making a difference in the city, for the chance of having a tram named in their honour.

Last year, the tram network relaunched its dedicated Community Hero tram – one that would display the name of the chosen unsung hero for 12 months. The initiative was designed to recognise those who have gone above and beyond to show kindness, lead change through local activism or have shown an exemplary commitment to excellence and hard work across Nottinghamshire.

In 2025, the honour was given to Dr Marcellus Baz BEM, founder and CEO of the charity Switch Up, as well as charity organisation Pulp Friction, with both names featured on tram number 204 throughout the year.

This year, the tram operator is calling on locals to submit their nominations for 2026 via a dedicated online form, detailing why they believe their community hero deserves to win. The winner’s tram will join the likes of a range of notable Nottingham personalities including Torvill and Dean, Mary Earps, Paul Smith and more, who have all been honoured with a tram in recent years.

Alison Sweeney, head of marketing at NET, said: “Many of our trams are named after notable people in our city, whether that’s Olympians Torvill and Dean, sports star Mary Earps, or fashion designer Sir Paul Smith. It’s a high praise to receive, and we wanted to be able to extend that opportunity towards people who do so much but perhaps go under the radar. That’s why we start the process off with a public nomination, so locals can have their say and we can learn more about who’s really making a difference in our city.

“Last year, due to overwhelming demand, our ‘community hero’ tram was named after an individual and an organisation, and we’re excited to see who people nominate this year.”

To nominate a person, locals are encouraged to share the details of the true impact their community hero has made, sharing videos and photos to support their nomination. All nominations will then undergo a rigorous consideration process, before a shortlist is presented to a panel of judges who will choose the winning name.

The chosen community hero will have their name placed on the side of their dedicated NET tram for one year, with the winner invited to be the very first to meet their new tram during a commemorative unveiling ceremony.
