Thousands of racers and spectators are set to descend upon Old Market Square this Sunday 10 May for the Super Soapbox Challenge, and Nottingham’s tram operator, Nottingham Express Transit (NET), is encouraging people to ensure a smooth journey into the city by travelling by tram.

NET will be operating on its usual Sunday service on the day, with its Old Market Square tram stop conveniently located next to the event, which will see homemade carts ride down a four-metre-high ramp on King Street.

Becki Horne, business engagement manager at NET said: “This Sunday we want to remind people to leave the bumpy journeys where they belong, right on that huge ramp in the city centre and not on your way there. When travelling by tram there’s no need to worry about parking or navigating busy roads on the way home, so you can focus on enjoying time with family and friends, without the stress.

“If tram users want to familiarise themselves with their route before boarding, especially if they’ve not used the tram in a while, our NETGO! App has lots of useful information and you can even use it to buy your ticket. Our zero tolerance towards fare evasion policy remains a core part of our operations too, so always remember you need to buy before you board. If you’re not sure which ticket to buy or how to validate your pass, you can always visit our website or WhatsApp us on 0115 8246060 to get your questions answered.”

NET will be entering a cart to the tournament, with a design inspired by the iconic tram cabs that are seen across the city. A team of six staff members have been working on the build, which includes people from across all areas of the network, including finance, engineering, customer service and more.

Becki added: “Our team have been working hard to create their own racing cart to put to the test, and we’re looking forward to seeing the other creative vehicles zooming down the ramp this Sunday. We hope everyone has a brilliant day, as the whole city comes together for this exciting event.”
