NET steps up customer support for second set of engineering works

Following the successful completion of engineering works in the city centre, the operator of Nottingham’s tram network is preparing to carry out permanent repairs on a section of line near Beeston.

In response to feedback from customers, NET is set to run a replacement bus serving all the stops that will be temporarily closed during the next phase of the scheduled autumn engineering works, which get underway on Saturday, October 28.

Lasting for seven days, the works will see repairs to infrastructure damaged by flooding from a burst water main earlier this year.

Trevor Stocker, NET Head of Operations, explained: “We are pleased that the track upgrades at Middle Hill, between Old Market Square and Nottingham Station, have been successfully completed on time and trams are currently running through to all destinations, including the Lace Market stop.

“However, this weekend will see the start of essential repairs on the Hucknall to Toton Lane route, and from Saturday, trams will be unable to run between the University of Nottingham and Cator Lane. This will result in the temporary closure of stops at University Boulevard, Middle Street, Beeston Centre, Chilwell Road and High Road.”

A previously advertised express bus from the Toton Lane Park and Ride facility and the University of Nottingham bus stop has now been upgraded. It will now stop near all affected tram stops between Cator Lane and the University of Nottingham to further reduce any inconvenience for customers.

“Contractors will also have measures in place to minimise disturbance for residents and businesses,” Trevor said.

“Once again, we would like to thank customers and members of the local community for their patience and understanding during these essential works that will ensure the safe operation of the line for many years to come,” he added.

Further details about the final phase of the works, including information on the measures in place to help customers complete their journeys, can be found here. A full service across the network is expected to resume on Saturday, November 4.
