Essential tram maintenance work planned this August.
Essential tram network maintenance will be taking place for four nights next month, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has revealed.
Tram users in Nottingham can expect a more frequent service from Wednesday 20 August, as Nottingham Express Transit (NET) confirms that temporary timetable measures put in place to enable essential repair works will be lifted.
Operators worked with Nottingham Council to agree on a temporary timetable which went live on 25 June, to enable a consistent service while repairs were carried out on trams that were damaged and taken out of use following road traffic collisions.
Although the temporary timetable was authorised to run until 31 August, due to increasing tram availability NET has confirmed that an increased frequency timetable can now resume across much of the network. This means that during peak times, between 7:00am and 9:00pm, trams will be running every 7 minutes where possible.
As the network reaches the final stage of its summer repair work, some delays may still occur, and customers are encouraged to check NET’s service status, social media and the NETGO! app before travelling.
Sarah Turner, managing director of NET said: “This temporary timetable helped us to run a consistent service for our customers while we worked hard to fix our trams that were involved in an accident with another car. Although it meant people had to wait a few more minutes for their next tram, with them running every 10 minutes rather than 7, we found that this was received well by our customers who could use the temporary timetable to confidently plan their journey.
“The repair process can be complex as we assess the damage caused and put the robust testing in place to ensure our fleet is fit for purpose. While we estimated the temporary timetable may be in place for four weeks, we were authorised to extend this until the end of August but with tram availability now stabilising, we’re able to get back up and running to a more frequent service much sooner.
“This is fantastic news to share, coming at the perfect time as the summer holidays continue and students prepare for the return to school, college and university. We’d like to thank the public for their support and patience as we complete the final stages of our repair work and step up to return to running a much more frequent service.”
