Tram fare dodgers to experience higher penalty fares from 1 May.
From 1 May 2026, tram fare dodgers run the risk of facing serious financial consequences as Nottingham Express Transit (NET) updates its Penalty Fare Policy.
Nottingham’s Christmas celebrations will get into full swing this week with the help of the city’s tram network.
NET is sponsoring the return of the Winter Wonderland attractions, which will be launched alongside the switching on of the city’s spectacular festive lights.
With just five weeks to go to the big day, tens of thousands of people are expected to descend on Old Market Square on Wednesday, November 20 for the big switch-on, and visitors are being urged to take the tram to make the most of the event.
Jamie Swift, NET Marketing Manager, explained: “This is traditionally a very busy event, the roads will be busy and parking in short supply.
“The tram offers a quick and reliable journey straight to Old Market Square from five free park and ride sites conveniently located around the city.”
As well as providing a hassle-free journey into the city, Nottingham’s trams also offer excellent value for money. NET’s Group Ticket, which enables two adults or two adults and up to three children, unlimited travel for just £5 will be available from 3.00pm on Wednesday and at weekends during the build-up to Christmas.
NET has also reduced the price of its 30-day ticket from £45 to £40. The popular ticket is available online or from the Travel Centre in King Street which will also be giving away plenty of Christmas goodies during the lights switch-on event on Wednesday.
Jamie added: “There’s a lot going on in Nottingham over the coming weeks, from outdoor ice skating to a Christmas craft and gift market. By taking the tram, visitors can really enjoy the attractions without the worry of getting stuck in traffic.”
