Vicky McClure dedicates named tram to Our Dementia Choir.
Nottingham-born BAFTA award-winning actress Vicky McClure, has honoured Our Dementia Choir by dedicating her named Nottingham Express Transit(NET) tram to the cause.
A memorial was unveiled on Monday 13th December for ‘Benton the tram stop cat’ – a much-loved feline frequently found at Inham Road tram stop where he was popular among commuters, tram users and local residents.
Benton’s love for sitting at the tram stop and warmly greeting residents and tram users inspired a huge community reaction, national media interest and even his own Twitter page.
When Benton’s owner Ginny Hicks confirmed in the summer that Benton had sadly died, she received a huge number of tributes on social media and as a result, plans were put in place to create a memorial to celebrate Benton and the fond memories he inspired among tram users.
The memorial was unveiled on Monday 13th December at the Inham Road Tramstop.
Stephanie Moss-Pearce from NET said: “Benton the tram stop cat was a local hero that put a smile on the face of everyone he met, helping the important role of the tram in bringing communities together. We hope the memorial unveiled today is a fitting tribute to Benton and the fond memories he brought to tram users and local residents.”
A Go fund me page has been set up by Ginny to help the rescue that supported the family during the search for Benton. More details can be found here https://gofund.me/af46fd21
