NET announces updated tram fares to take effect from 1 December.

Nottingham Express Transit (NET) is implementing a range of changes to its ticket prices from Monday 1 December 2025. The upcoming fare adjustments include increases across a majority of the network’s ticket types, and the continuation of a new pricing structure aimed at encouraging the move to streamlined digital payments.

In an effort to incentivise customers to use the contactless payment methods now available, Adult Single tickets will rise by 10p when purchased using the contactless validators found on the platforms, taking them from £3.40 to £3.50, while customers purchasing on the NETGO! app and the Ticket Vending Machines (TVM) will now pay £3.60. Similarly, Adult Day tickets will rise by 15p when purchased using the contactless validators, with a new cost of £5.65, while the price for day tickets bought via the NETGO! App or at the TVMs will be 15p more, at £5.80.

Following a fare change in July, Short Hop ticket fares will remain at £1.50 for contactless payments and £2 when purchased through TVMs. Other changes include a £1 increase to the Adult Weekly ticket, and the Student and Under 22, Day, Single and Week tickets will rise by 20p, 20p and £1 respectively. Tim Hesketh, Chief Executive Officer at NET, said: “We understand that we are living in financially challenging times and making the decision to increase our fares is not something we consider lightly. Our team has worked to ensure that these updated prices remain below the current rate of inflation and, in comparison, are 2% less than the recent price increases seen across the heavy rail sector.”

As part of the changes, NET’s ‘Group Ticket’ will be renamed the ‘Family Ticket’. This permits travel for one or two adults when travelling with a minimum of one, and up to three, children. Prices for this will increase from £10 to £12 during off peak times, and from £14 to £15 during peak times.

Tim continued: "It’s important for us to react to the current economic situation, while ensuring that Nottingham’s tram network remains good value for money. The trams are a critical piece of infrastructure here and these fare adjustments reflect the ongoing need to balance affordability with ensuring we can manage, maintain and continue to improve the network that keeps so many people moving.”

Nottingham’s tram network operates seven days a week, 364 days a year and offers a sustainable and reliable transport option for the city. In a recent customer survey, 85% of tram users said they were satisfied with NET, while the network reached a new high for its perception of being ‘good value for money’.
