Pulp Friction choir strikes a chord on the trams for hate crime awareness week

Tram users today were treated to a memorable journey as the choir from Nottingham-based charity, Pulp Friction, boarded a Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram travelling from Clifton to Old Market Square and filled it with joyful harmony.

The charity, which is dedicated to empowering learning disabled and autistic individuals, spread messages of kindness and inclusion with passengers in honour of Hate Crime Awareness Week, which takes place from 10–17 October.

As well as striking a chord in support of tackling hate crime and raising awareness of how to respond if one is witnessed or experienced, the choir also handed out campaign flyers, flowers and handmade paper hearts to tram passengers.

The performance forms part of Pulp Friction’s wider campaign, ‘Thumbs Down to Hate Crime’, which is being delivered in collaboration with Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

This isn’t the first time Pulp Friction has been recognised for giving back to the community, with the charity being named one of NET’s ‘community heroes’ in 2025 after the people of Nottingham were asked to nominate who they thought in the community made a positive difference to the city and its people.

Welcoming Pulp Friction on board the trams is just one way that NET continues to advocate for safety and inclusion across its network, following on from schemes such as Operation SafeTravel, delivered alongside Nottinghamshire Police, as well as ongoing partnerships with accessibility company Widgit and sight loss charity, Thomas Pocklington Trust.
